What a brilliant week we have had this week in school.

The children in KS1 got to dress up as superheroes for the day and Year 5 and Year 6 had a visit from a solider to tell them all about World War 1.

We also had our first attendance assembly for over two years. It was brilliant to see so many of our children get their 100% attendance badges for the first term in school and it was lovely to see so many parents/cares at assembly. Lets see how many children will get their attendance badges for this term.

Please check out our twitter page Broomwood Primary School twitter and the website Broomwood Primary School website to keep updated.

Polite Reminders:

Parking and driving:

Please be respectful to our residents and other parents/carers when picking up and dropping off children. Please do not park over people's drives or block cars in. Please also be mindful of children and parents walking on pavements when you are parking. Thank you.

Payments on parent pay:

Please ensure that payments on parent pay are paid on time. Overdue payments may result in children not being able to attend breakfast club, or go onto packed lunches until dinner money is paid. We are willing to set up payment plans with parents to pay off overdue debts or unfortunately it may result in going to small claims.

Illness:

If your child is absent from school, please ensure that you call our absent line or text school before 9am to inform us. If we are not informed why a child is absent from school it is classed as unauthorised. This in turn can result in a fine.

Appointments:

We require a letter / evidence to be provided for all appointments in school time.

Lateness:

Children must be in school by 8.45 am and need to enter school via the play ground. Children who are late must enter school through the school office and parents/ carers sign in the reason for them being late. If children are continuously late (after 9.30am) this in turn can result in a fine.

After school Club (childcare):

Please ensure that if you require our after school club, it must be booked and paid for the week before it is required (this can be the Sunday before). If it is not booked in advance we cannot guarantee that we will have a space for your child.

School dinner:

We require a week's notice if children want to change their lunch preference from Packed Lunches to School Dinners and vice versa. Any changes must be informed to the school office in writing.

Congratulations to the below children who all received their bronze attendance badge today in assembly. They received this award for 100% attendance for schools first term.  It was lovely to see so many parents/carers attend the assembly.

Accelerated Reader Workshop- Tuesday 17th January from 4-4.30pm

At Broomwood Primary School, we strive to teach the skills of reading to enable children to become confident, fluent readers who use reading as a tool to explore the wider world and further their own learning journey. For this to have maximum impact, parent and carer engagement and support is fundamental.

We have introduced a new reading system in Key Stage Two called Accelerated Reader (AR) which will promote and encourage reading at Broomwood. AR uses accurate assessment to give the children choice of real books at their level. Children complete quizzes on books they have read and their reading progress is monitored through word counts and quiz scores.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Valentine Disco

We are pleased to announce that we are bringing back our Valentine Disco.

The disco will take place on Wednesday 8th February 2023 and will be split into two times:

Reception - Year 3 (4.30pm - 5.30pm)

Year 4 - Year 6 (6pm - 7pm)

Tickets are £3.00 per child. Each child will receive a drink and a biscuit.

Payment is made on parent pay. Please ensure that you have set up your parent pay account to allow you to make payment.

There is no limit on tickets for this event, but only children from Broomwood Primary School can attend the event.

All money raised will go to FoB's (Friends of Broomwood) and will be spent on the children.

Thank you for your support

This year Chinese New Year 2023 will fall on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023. This year is the year of the rabbit.

On Friday 20th January we will be celebrating Chinese New Year for the day in school.

We have China Spirit UK visiting us for the day: Year 4 will complete an hour workshop on the day and children from reception to year 6 will see a lion dance and kung fu performance as part of an assembly.

To help with the cost of this, we would appreciate a £1 donation, payable on parent pay.

We would love the children to wear something red on this day- the colour representing happiness, beauty, vitality, good luck, success and good fortune. Also if you have any traditional costumes that would be worn- we would love to see them!

If there are any parents that would be willing to make things for the children to try- we would love to hear from you.

If there are any willing parents who would feel confident to come and speak to a class of children about what happens and what it means for you- we would also love to hear from you.
